Many patients have the condition
you have described. It is likely that what you
are experiencing is known as a myokymia (eyelid
twitching). Most importantly, myokymia is benign
condition. It is marked by brief alternating
contractions, twitching of the lid muscle fibers,
and can be considered a muscle spasm, like
hiccups. The condition is often caused or
worsened by stress, fatigue, caffeine, smoking ,
or lack of sleep.
Occasionally, localized eye fatigue
originates from an overexerted visual system (when
glasses are needed but not being worn). This can
be determined through a complete,
comprehensive eye health examination. Remember,
yearly eye exams are recommended, even for "
healthy " eyes.
Again, thank you for your pertinent
question. Feel free to contact us if you have any
other needs.
